Probability theory occupies a central place in all areas of science. TIFR has researchers working in probability and related fields at its centres, ICTS, CAM, SOM and STCS. StatProb lab at ICTS will take a leading role in developing synergy and research collaboration between all the groups at student, post-doctoral and faculty level. The ICTS-StatProb Lab will have three broad objectives:
It's primary focus will be to conduct and enable research collaboration in diverse, inter-disciplinary areas covering a large spectrum from fundamental mathematics to applications in various disciplines related to Probability. It will bring together researchers working in Partial differential Equations, Networks, Optimal Transport, Machine Learning, Biology, Statistical physics to collaborate on problems.
The second objective will be capacity development from undergraduate curriculum to beginning graduate school student in Probability theory and related fields. A strong training and outreach component will be designed. The modules will be both on fundamentals of Probability and those on analysis of probabilistic models for physical, biological, statistical, and computational systems.
The third objective will be to conduct regular academic events and build collaborations across interested partners both in academia an industry. It shall consistently aim to highlight the quality of probability research in the TIFR-institutes and other schools/universities in India.

In summary, the StatProb lab will facilitate research activity among the sizeable probability community at different institutes in Bengaluru (IISc, ISI, IIM) via academic events. As Bengaluru has developed into the hub of probability research in India, ICTS will, by extension, also play a leading role in developing national collaboration among pan India probabilists using our vigorous visitors program. To begin with this will lead to international cooperation with many universities where faculty at ICTS already have collaborators and then onto a wider initiative.
